What is the best way to change litter brands?
Feline behaviorist Pam Johnson-Bennett, author of Think Like a Cat, says:
Whenever you plan to introduce a change into a cat's life, keep in mind she would prefer that you not do it. Cats hate change -- boy do they hate change! In order to switch litter types, especially when you're going for such a change in texture, you must put just a tiny amount of the pearls into her regular litter. For some cats, the initial pearl amount might have to be a 1/4 of a cup or even just a tablespoon. Every few days you can add a little more of the new litter and less of the regular. That's the only way to ensure she'll still use the litter box. The changeover may take two weeks or more to complete.
