What can I do about my obese cat, to help him lose weight?

First get the kitties on a food that is lower in calories. To do this I would suggest doing an Internet search on obesity in cats. Getting them to lose weight is no simple matter, but with patience and time it can be done. You will have to become somewhat of an amateur nutritionist to accomplish it.
Once you determine the best food for your kitties, I would suggest dividing their daily amount into several meals. This way they are getting something throughout the day.
Getting them to exercise can also be a challenge, but I have found several ways to get my gang involved. First of all, I sit on the floor with them. Somehow it's more fun if mom is down there with them. And I have one of those mini laser lights, which they love to chase. An obese cat may only play for a minute or two, but over time, you can slowly increase their exercise time. Even getting them to swat at something is a beginning. And if they are the type of cat that will follow you if you have food in hand, walk from room to room before you give it to them. Sounds silly, but at least they are moving.
