Ladies First

by Mary Graff

Smack dab in the middle of tribal-inspired furnishings and all things Asian chic, a traditional ladylike trend is emerging. Dare we call it dainty? Neutral colors and soft floral prints are cropping up everywhere. "It's soft and warm and very cuddly," says Jessica McClintock of her new licensed line of furnishings for C.R. Laine. Inspired by her home and the decor that fills it ("I love things French, but I love them to look old," she says), the collection exudes romance, especially the rose-print carved settee. Another lady making headlines? HGTV favorite Candice Olson, who's partnered with Norwalk Furniture to launch a traditional line of furniture highlighted by waterfall skirts, button tufts and antique brass nailheads. We can't get enough of her vintage-style Bette sofa, covered in a tonal damask fabric. A finishing touch that pulls the "granny chic" look together? A prim and proper — and anything but stuffy — floor covering like Kas's Wedgewood Blue/Cream Floral Oasis hooked rug.
