One of the easiest tree-like houseplants to grow is the Howea Palm, also known as Kentia Palm. Also, the Ficus benjamina (weeping fig), Ficus elastica (rubber plant), and the Ficus lyrata (fiddle-leaved fig) are great choices. The Schefflera is also a superb long-lived house plant that you might consider.

All these plants will need to be watered regularly. Another thing to keep in mind: if you are going to be gone from home often, you might want to look into a plant sitter to keep your plants healthy while you're away.
