"I live in Montana and only have west-facing windows. I love basil and it is so hard to find fresh. I would like to grow some, but I think it may not get enough light. Do you think basil will grow in my window this winter? I was thinking a grow light might help but I would love any suggestions." -- IVillager angiepony
Basil thrives when it is given a lot of sun (5-6 hours per day). Since we are entering the winter months and you have a western facing window, it is unlikely that you will get enough sun to grow basil.
Your best bet is to go to any hardware or home improvement center. They always have a huge selection of good lights for growing plants. You should be able to find a light bulb that you can plop right into one of your current fixtures. Follow the instructions on your basil seed packet and voila - fresh basil will be a part of your winter kitchen!
