Select a container roughly as wide as it is deep. A squat pot or tub with a diameter of at least 12 inches is more stable than a deep, tapered container. An old barrel is ideal because the wood provides good insulation against summer heat. Paint the inside of a terra-cotta, stone, or concrete pot with asphalt to reduce evaporation.
