Wallpaper is making a comeback as a home decor element. Experts advise that you buy an extra roll or two to make sure you have enough paper to complete the room. But what to do with the leftovers?

  • If the paper has a large pattern, cut one or more of them out and frame them. Hang in multiples for an artistic effect.
  • Use a border on the risers of steps in your home - you can match or contrast with the border, paint and wallpaper in the room.
  • Cover the frame around a window or doorway, then sponge over the paper with brown stain for an antique carved wood look.
  • Line kitchen or bureau drawers to match the decor of the room.
  • Why settle for plain wooden kitchen or office organizers? Cover them in a color or pattern that inspires you to cook, work or create.
  • Cut it into strips or squares, or tear it into random shapes and sizes, and use it for decoupage.
  • Cover switch plates and plug plates to blend into a papered wall, or to stand out in a painted room.
  • Cover a window cornice to blend with the paper on the wall. The cornice will recede, drawing attention away from the window treatments.
  • Make a refrigerator picture frame magnet: Cover thin cardboard with wallpaper, then cut two pieces the same size, a bit larger than the photo you want to frame. Cut a hole in one piece for the picture to show through. Glue the two pieces together along the sides and bottom, attach a magnet to the back and slide the picture in the top.
  • Find a cigar box or sturdy shoe box, and cover it with wallpaper to make a re-usable gift box or a treasure box for a child.
