Stamp of Distinction
This paper lampshade, decorated with spaceships, can be easily reproduced. Just buy the stamps of your choice, then apply by hand to a plain paper shade.
Made in the Shade
You can transform virtually any fabric, including sheets, into window shades. Store-bought blackout shades tend to get dirty quickly and don't add much character to a kid's room. There is a way to create customized shades using inexpensive fabric or sheets. Home centers, some hardware stores and specialty paint stores will laminate your fabric and create standard roller shades. An oversized button attached with glue is a fun alternative to an old-fashioned pull.
Personal Road Map
A sequence of small frames tells the story of a young boy's life, including photos of family members and maps of places they've lived. Taken together, they tell his story in terms of the places that formed him, even before he was born.
