Q

"I have a 1950s metal sunburst clock with a wooden face. I painted the wooden face in my younger, more reckless days, and now I'm wondering if I've totally ruined it. Does an antique that you've painted or otherwise altered still have value?" -- iVillager nylady6

A

Sorry. The collector value of your clock was gone when you repainted it. It still can function as an attractive clock, but resale value is very low. Any antique or collectible that has a major alteration is no longer a desirable piece to a collector.
