Clean old wood furniture very carefully. The less you do the better. Wash off the surface dirt with soapsuds and as little water as possible. Some commercial furniture cleaners are okay, but avoid silicon products or boiled linseed oil mixtures. Read the labels on the bottles and test the cleaner in a hidden area before you clean a table. Cleaner should not remove color or shine, just waxy dirt.
